1. Electric Vehicles Are Taking Centerstage at the Frankfurt Auto Show
Most the biggest players in the automotive industry now have a hand in electric vehicles (EV). So, it was hardly a surprise that EVs were making a big splash at this year’s show. Here are a few highlights to know about if you want to become a mechanic.
Porsche’s Taycan is the company’s first EV. In terms of aesthetics, the design is not much different from the Mission E concept as it has retained the same efficient and sleek design. As for performance, the Taycan Turbo S has 615hp with an overboost function for launch control resulting in 751hp. It can cover 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and achieve a top speed of 260 km/h. As for the battery range, the Taycan needs to be charged after 412-450 kilometers, depending on the model (Turbo or Turbo S).
Hyundai also premiered its 45 concept vehicle, described by the company as “a symbolic milestone for Hyundai’s future EV design.” Somehow balancing a style that is both retro and futuristic, the 45 is a historic wink to the company’s first generations of automobiles.
2. If You Want to Become a Mechanic, You’ll Be Interested in the New Land Rover Defender
If you’re a fan of film, or if you’re a car buff in a mechanic program, you might have heard that the new Land Rover Defender was recently spotted on set on the upcoming James Bond Movie: No Time to Die. Land Rover’s latest offers all the off-roading implements and features that any international secret agent would require when navigating the globe’s most arduous terrain. While the company remained quite secretive until the IAA, Land Rover’s SUV was considered to be one of the year’s most anticipated car debuts. It is the second generation of Defender and it comes no less than 25 years after its predecessor.
3. BMW’s New X6 Crossover SUV Has Been One of This Year’s Standouts
BMW’s third generation X6 coupe SUV had already been exhibited, but its four models were revealed to the public for the first time in Frankfurt. The most powerful version in the range is the M50i with its twin turbo V8 engine capable of producing 524hp and having an impressive 553 ft/lbs torque capacity.
Each version comes with BMW’s xDrive four-wheel drive system and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
