Microfiber cloths are effective when cleaning car surfaces

Any great automotive detailer knows microfiber towels are the Holy Grail when it comes to detailing. Professionals have long since done away with sponges, abrasive towels, and paper towel in favour of a much better alternative. Whether you’re washing a vehicle’s body, cleaning the windows, or treating a leather interior, there’s a microfiber cloth to suit your needs.

Interesting in pursuing a career as a professional automotive detailer? Read on to discover three reasons why fellow professionals use microfiber cloths for all their detailing needs.

1. Microfiber Towels Are Great for Cleaning Grime During Professional Automotive Detailing

Microfiber towels clean more effectively than regular towels. As their name suggests, their “micro” fibers are so tiny that they can grip and lift up dirt into the towel away from the surface of the vehicle. Regular towels made of materials like cotton will typically just spread dirt around when they are wiped across the surface of a car. In addition, when a microfiber cloth’s fibers rub together, it creates a static charge. The static charge improves the cloth’s ability to clean even more, because the charge attracts dirt particles.

Microfiber cloths have about four times the surface area of cotton cloths of the same size. This extra surface area allows the cloth to pick up and remove more grime. In addition, studies have shown that mops made of microfiber material removed up to 99 per cent of bacteria from a surface. Conventional mops only removed 30 per cent of bacteria. There’s a reason microfiber cloths are nicknamed dirt magnets by professionals with an auto detailing career!

2. Microfiber Towels Are Not Abrasive on the Delicate Surfaces of a Vehicle

The fibers in microfiber towels are so tiny that they are approximately 1/100th the diameter of human hair. Their polyester and polyamide blend, along with their tiny fiber size, makes them extremely soft and non-abrasive.

Depending on the section of the vehicle being cleaned during professional automotive detailing, detailers can opt for towels with varying blends of the two materials. The more polyamide in the blend, the softer the towel will be and more appropriate for sensitive surfaces like the car’s paint. Not only are the towels not abrasive themselves, they also lift dirt away from the surface. This eliminates the chance of debris scratching the surface as the towel is wiped across the vehicle.

3. Microfiber Towels Are Ultra Absorbent for Professional Automotive Detailing

Microfiber towels are extremely absorbent, because thousands of their tiny fibers suck up and remove liquid from a vehicle’s surface. Microfiber can absorb eight times its weight in water. This makes microfiber towels an excellent tool for drying a vehicle without leaving any water marks. Not only can they absorb large amounts of liquid, but they also dry extremely quickly. Their quick drying time helps eliminate the chance of bacteria growing on the cloth and making it unsanitary.
