4 Things Students in Auto Mechanic Training Should Know About the 2020 VW Jetta GLI

It’s a sporty alternative to a classic sedan — but it’s also much more than meets the eye. Although the original Volkswagen Jetta is known for being a reliable and roomy compact sedan, the Jetta GLI takes that concept to new heights.

Available in the standard S trim and the more expensive, higher-quality Autobahn trim, the 2020 Jetta GLI elevates one of Volkswagen’s most renowned models and gives it a fresher, sportier feel.

Between its bigger engine, 18-inch wheels, increased power, greater fuel economy, and much, much more, this is a car packing a serious punch in a fairly small package. Here are four things about the 2020 VW Jetta GLI you should know.

The GLI Comes Equipped with Impressive Performance Specs

Unlike the 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine the ordinary 2020 Jetta is equipped with, the GLI steps its game up in this respect by offering a 2.0-litre variant. The GLI also produces 258 lb-ft of torque and 228 hp — both of which are around 1.5 times that of the original Jetta.

Better yet, the GLI’s chassis gives drivers improved responses, and the GLI also offers an optional seven-speed automatic transmission, on top of the six-speed manual the vehicle already comes with.

The GLI’s Driving Capabilities Are an Improvement on the Classic Model

Not only does the GLI come with a more robust engine and greater capabilities, it also provides owners a better driving experience. Students in automotive school will be thrilled to learn that the GLI boasts improved steering, a cornering-friendly multi-link rear suspension, and stellar braking capabilities, including AEB and forward-collision warning. The Autobahn trim even adds  adaptive dampers to the mix.

The GLI also offers drivers greater fuel economy, with the EPA giving its six-speed manual transmission around 33 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg for city driving, respectively. It’s a safe ride, too – boasting a five-star rating for crash testing.

The GLI’s High-Tech Infotainment Features Will Impress Any Automotive School Student

Although the 2020 Jetta GLI’s in-car Wi-Fi is impressive enough by itself, there’s much more than that when it comes to impressive technological features. For one, the GLI comes with Volkswagen’s newest Car-Net infotainment system, featuring Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink, Android Auto, and two USB ports.

Those who buy the Autobahn trim can expect even greater tech specs, including bigger touchscreens, BeatsAudio sound systems boasting eight(!) speakers, digital gauge clusters, and wireless charging.

The Interior Features Are Also Worth Looking At

If you’re considering auto mechanic training right now and are reading about the GLI, you’ll notice how the Autobahn trim has more to offer than the base model as far as interior features go — even if this trim is more costly. For example, the Autobahn trim gives drivers and passengers extra comfort in the form of ventilated front seats, leather furnishings, adjustable driver’s seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

However, the base model also offers impressive interior specs of its own, including customizable interior lighting, increased backseat legroom, heated front seats, push-button start, and automatic climate control.
