Any Auto Body Repair Technician Will Love the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

The vehicle that has pretty much set the standard for SUVs since it was created is coming back in 2021, bigger and better than ever. The Chevrolet Suburban, a full-sized SUV whose model name has been in use since 1934, holds the longest-running consistent automobile nameplate to ever exist. The 12th generation of this vehicle is making an appearance in 2021, promising some serious upgrades to the previous model. Not only is the 2021 Suburban bigger, but it has undergone a total redesign. Here’s everything that’s new about the Chevrolet Suburban 2021, including how it drives, how it looks, and how it performs.

If You Have Auto Body Technician Training, Here’s How the 2021 Suburban Is Designed

Chevrolet’s intentions are clear from just one look at the 2021 Suburban: this is a vehicle that pushes the limit in size, cargo capacity, and towing capabilities. As a body-on-frame SUV, the Suburban is built to be able to carry more. The 2021 Suburban boasts 144.7 cubic feet of cargo space, up 23 feet from the last iteration of the model. As those with auto body technician careers may know, the Suburban’s body-on-frame design also allows it to tow more weight. Depending on the trim level, the 2021 Suburban can tow between 8,200 and 9,000 pounds. The 2021 version also features a new addition—independent rear suspension, the first time it’s ever been used in a Suburban. This type of suspension allows for the extra cargo space featured in this model, as it takes up less room.

How the 2021 Suburban Drives

The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban has a variety of capabilities depending on its trim level, but most Suburbans are equipped with a 5.3-litre V8 engine, which delivers 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. In the High Country model, a 6.2-litre V8 engine gets 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. With 10-speed automatic transmission, the Suburban offers a surprisingly smooth ride for such a large vehicle, with solid handling and responsive steering.

Fuel Efficiency

In the latest Suburban, the 5.3-liter V8 gets around 15 L/100km in the city and 12 L/100km on the highway for a combined rate of 13 L/100km. The 6.2-liter V8 doesn’t affect the Suburban’s fuel economy rating as much as one would think, getting almost 16 L/100km in the city, 12 L/100km on the highway, and 14 L/100km combined. For an SUV of the 2021 Suburban’s size, these ratings are pretty impressive.

Interior Styling

As an aspiring auto body technician, you might be interested in how the Suburban looks. With the extra cargo space gained in 2021, the Suburban offers more room for passengers. This SUV offers three rows of seating for passengers, and this year, passengers benefit from several extra centimetres of legroom and comfort, due to the extra room gained with the use of independent rear suspension. The vehicle’s second-row seats slide for easy access, and the new design offers plenty of storage with a massive center-console bin.

Technology and Special Features

It’s no surprise that the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban comes with plenty of new technology updates in addition to its new design. The Suburban features a 10-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and passengers will love the amount of USB ports offered, as well as this SUV’s Wi-Fi hotspot. As far as safety features go, the Suburban is equipped with blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree surround view system, and lane-keeping assist technology.
