The 2013 international auto show season is coming to a close, but it is going out with a bang thanks to the amazing vehicles on display in Shanghai this week. China is the world’s largest car market and more than ever before, people in auto careers are focusing on the Shanghai Auto Show to see some of the flashiest debuts. The city of 23 million with its thick ceiling of smog saw many green hybrid vehicles at its show, but also no shortage of spacious luxury cars to appeal to one of the million Chinese millionaires. Here’s a look at some of the most eye-catching varieties!

Koenigsegg Agera Special Edition

Featuring the world’s first one-piece, super-light carbon wheels, with a 5.0-litre twin-turbo-charged V8 engine producing 1140hp that can hit incredible top speeds of 440 km/h, this is one spectacular hypercar. Koenigsegg doesn’t hesitate to deliver unique Chinese cars like this for the mega-rich eager to pay more if their version is just a bit more special than the others.

Chery @Ant

Chinese carmaker Chery produces this bizarre two-seat electric car that is designed to find others like it on the road and link up, forming a “road train” to improve fuel efficiency. Don’t imagine we’ll be seeing many of these in Surrey any time soon, but it would be interesting to imagine a “train” of these on BC roads!

Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA

With a blend of sleek design and cool features like laser-beam headlights, this model has been a big hit at the Shanghai show. Students with car sales training should hope the production GLA Class looks as good as this concept model when it hits showrooms as early as the end of this year.

Hongqi L9

Pronounced “hon-she”, this retro communist limo isn’t just for foreign dictators any more. The L9 is the civilian version of the state car with impressive 400 horsepower from a 6.0 litre V12 engine. Since the company is state-owned, rumor has it these cars may only be available as gifts to favoured persons.
