How We’re Preparing Auto Mechanic Student Rajeev for His Dream Job

At ATC Toronto, our students bring incredible passion and drive to the classroom and the shop floor. Recently, we spoke with one of our dedicated students, Rajeev Gnanasampanthan, about his journey into auto mechanics. His story highlights the power of hands-on learning and the importance of following your passion.

A Passion Born in the Shop

Rajeev’s journey into mechanics started long before he stepped into ATC Toronto. He decided to take this program due to his passion for vehicles. “I previously had some shop experience—my buddy owned a shop, so I was always around, and then I figured, you know, let me get my hands dirty and actually go through the process,” he said.

His love for engines is what fuels his enthusiasm for this career path. “Just engines, basically. The fact that you can take something so small and build it into whatever you would like,” he enthuses. 

Hands-On Experience That Stands Out

When asked about his favourite part of the program, Rajeev lit up as he described working with engines. “Probably the engine rebuild program, where we took apart an engine, identified the components and were able to locate items that were interchangeable, that boost performance, but at the same time, they’re crucial to the engine’s operation,” he said.

And the satisfaction of rebuilding an engine for the first time? “Extremely satisfying. Extremely satisfying knowing that you can take apart an engine and customize it basically to whatever degree you would like.”

It’s this hands-on approach that makes learning at ATC Toronto so impactful. “I like the hands-on part of it,” Rajeev explained. “And it’s really nice that they have a shop where you can come in and do things, and with instruction, of course, learn things and be able to get your hands dirty.”

Learning From Industry Experts in Our Auto Mechanic Program

A standout feature of ATC Toronto’s auto mechanic program is the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals. “They are phenomenal,” Rajeev said when asked about his instructors. “My professor actually owns his own shop. He owns a performance shop and a repair shop. So the knowledge he brings towards the table is absolutely fantastic.”

Having instructors who actively work in the industry adds more depth to the learning experience, giving students like Rajeev valuable insights into the real world of auto mechanics.

Building Toward a Dream Career

Rajeev’s time at ATC Toronto isn’t just about learning and building a future. “I actually would like to go into diagnostics and possibly tuning, and I would like to open my own diagnostic shop one day,” he shared.

His confidence and excitement for what lies ahead are inspiring. “The program is definitely helping me prepare for the workforce,” Rajeev said. “It’s not just about fixing cars—it’s about understanding them.”
