Bonhams in London, England
Bonhams is a privately owned British auction house as well as one of the largest auctioneers of fine arts, antiques and other collectible items. Its motor cars department is the largest to hold auction sales of classic cars and motorcycles. One of the most memorable automotive auctions held by Bonhams was its Goodwood sale of 2013. Professionals in auto careers are aware that this particular auction set a new automotive world record for the most expensive car ever auctioned. The vehicle that set this new record is a Mercedes-Benz W196 grand-prix race car that sold for $29,650,095.
The W196 is a 2.5-litre straight-eight open-wheel Formula 1 race car, which was originally driven by the famous Juan Manuel Fangio. Fangio was actually driving the W196 when he won both the 1954 German Grand Prix as well as the Swiss Grand Prix.

Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona
This auction company specializes in the auction of both classic and antique cars. Barrett-Jackson is located in Scottsdale, Arizona, however, it also runs collector events in other areas including; Palm Beach, Florida, Reno, Nevada, and Las Vegas. Graduates of mechanic college might know that the 2007 Berrett-Jackson auction was the highest earning of the United States car market to this date. This particular auction made a total of $112 million on sales, and the company has not surpassed this record since.
The highest earning car that sold during the 2007 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction was a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 “Super Snake.” The car was auctioned off and sold for a whopping $5,500,000!
Gooding and Company in Pebble Beach, CA
Gooding & Company is a classic car auction company that is based out of Santa Monica, California. Founder, David Gooding, launched the company in 2004 and became a success almost immediately. Since then, Gooding & Company has been the official house of the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance.
The auction company has sold countless vehicles, however, there are a few memorable sales that have stood the test of time. Some of these include a 1936 Bugatti 57SC Atlantic, which sold for over $30 million in 2010 and a 1957 Ferrari 250 GT 14-Louver Berlinetta and a 1997 McLaren F1.
