The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is expected to be one of the most powerful street-legal Ford models ever made, with an estimated output of 700 horsepower as well as a few upgrades and updates to the interior and exterior.

Professionals with Mechanic Training Might Be Excited About What’s Under the Hood
As with many major car reveals, not much was initially known about the new Mustang Shelby. Fortunately, there’s some exciting information that has been released.
Under the hood of the 2020 Mustang Shelby, auto mechanics will be able to find a hand-built 5.2-litre cross-plane V-8 engine, complete with a 2.6-litre supercharger and dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission. Early projections have reported that the new model can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in less than three seconds, with enough handling to turn a quarter-mile in under 11 seconds. It’s certainly pretty impressive for auto enthusiasts and those with mechanic training.
Mechanics Should Know the Newest Mustang Has a Reined-In Speed Limit
Previous incarnations of the Shelby GT500 included an astonishing 662 horsepower, and one of the first and most exciting bits of information released about the 2020 Mustang Shelby was that it was capable of generating over 700 horsepower. Many auto enthusiasts assumed that this meant the new model would be stronger, faster, and more powerful than the last Shelby, but Ford actually put the brakes on the high speed capabilities of its latest Mustang. If after you learn how to become a mechanic you’re ever under the hood of a Mustang GT500, don’t be surprised by this.
Instead of engineering its car towards reaching 320 kilometres per hour, Ford instead decided to focus on other performance aspects, like handling. One of the main reasons the emphasis wasn’t on speed was because Ford wanted to create a car that had the handling power to challenge similar competitors, specifically the Camaro ZL1 and the Challenger Hellcat Redeye.
The New Mustang Shelby Has Improved Handling and Ride Performance
One of the biggest factors that engineers had in mind during the creation of the 2020 Shelby was its handling. Its predecessors were famous for reaching top speeds, but Ford was interested in making the new Mustang GT500 more competitive, and that meant handling well at high speeds.
In order to achieve the performance it wanted, Ford took out the 5.2-litre block from the GT350 model, and modified it to handle the extra boost that comes from the 2.6-litre Eaton supercharger. In addition, the Handling package has adjustable strut top mounts and a spoiler with a Gurney flap, while the Carbon Fiber Track package includes 20-inch carbon-fiber wheels and a carbon-fiber track wing, among other components, to provide a better performance on the drag strip and the race track.
