Bentley turned 100 years old in July of 2019. As part of their centenarian celebration, they’ve released a concept car designed for the year 2035. This concept offers sustainability, zero emissions and a futuristic style worthy of the big screen.
The Bentley EXP 100 GT is designed for future drivers, so it was pitched as fully autonomous. But don’t worry: it has a “thrill of driving” feature included as an option for those who still like to be in control behind the wheel. As a brand known for luxury, Bentley didn’t disappoint with this unveiling. Read for more info about this fascinating car that you could be driving in 2035.
What This Car Can Teach Auto Technology Students About Sustainability
The EXP 100 GT uses recycled rice husk ash for its exterior paint. Rice husk ash is a byproduct of milling rice, where the hard coverings, or husks, of rice grains separate during processing. Often these husks are burnt for fuel, creating ash that ends up as waste. Because the ash does not biodegrade easily and is sometimes dumped, using it for paint is a way to repurpose it and reduce pollution.
Auto Technology Fanatics Should See Under the Hood of the EXP 100 GT
This Bentley of the future is battery-electric, with a peak torque output of 1100 lb-ft. That’s maximized by its four motors, which enable torque vectoring. This is a technology that reduces steering effort by allowing wheels to rotate independently. The car boasts a range of 700km, while its motors give it a 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds, a number that any car enthusiast or auto technology student will likely be impressed by. Horsepower hasn’t been determined yet, but at a top speed of 299 km/h, this is going to be a powerful vehicle. Bentley says the batteries used in this machine are five times more energy dense than the batteries currently used and can be charged to 80 percent in just 15 minutes.
How This Car of the Future Maximizes Style
This is a giant of a car, at 2.4 metres wide and 5.8 metres long. Copper and aluminum elements on the exterior provide the same premium design effects as chrome, without resorting to unsustainable material. Lighting artist Moritz Waldemeyer designed the matrix grille and a 3D OLED screen in the rear cabin creates a striking lighting effect.
The car even has its own scent. It is a gentle mixture of sandalwood and fresh moss scents, created by 12.29, a fragrance house specializing in branding smells for luxury experiences. For students in auto technician courses little details like that are why Bentley is considered such an exclusive brand.
