The CPCA Conference Comes to Vancouver

The Marriott Pinnacle Hotel in Vancouver will host the 99th Annual Canadian Paint and Coatings Association (CPCA) Conference and AGM. The theme for this year’s conference is ”United for a Sustainable Industry”. It will run from September 15-17, 2012.

The Association’s annual conference provides an excellent opportunity for members across a number of industries to meet each other and discuss relevant issues. Obviously, as this year’s theme makes clear, environmental sustainability is at the forefront of discussion, though an emphasis will be placed on how to turn this new green shift into an economic boon.

The conference will feature a new format this year, with social activities (including the Chair’s Gala on Sunday evening, which will involve an industry awards presentation) and Technical Committee Meetings, which will give attendees a better chance to network with other industry colleagues.

There will also be a strong line-up of business luminaries who will present key national and international issues facing the paint and coatings sector, including updates on important public policy and regulatory issues related to all three levels of government. Fittingly, Industry experts Orr & Boss will be addressing the state of the industry now and in the foreseeable future.

While the paint and coatings industry covers a lot of ground, it goes within saying that this is an important sector for students in our Auto Body Tech & Refinishing Technician programs. As this conference makes clear, the global economy is working towards green solutions, and the paint and coatings industry is no different. What is clear, however, is that even with emergent technologies and shifts in mentality, there will always be a consistent demand for Auto Body Technicians and Automotive Painters.
