Will EV Sales Improve in 2025? What Experts Predict

As the automotive industry shifts towards a more sustainable future, electric vehicle (EV) sales have become a key indicator of progress. EV sales have faced some turbulence in recent years, causing many to question what’s in store for 2025.

At ATC Surrey, we aim to prepare students for success in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle industry through our hybrid technology program, equipping them with the skills to thrive in the ever-changing automotive sector. Keep reading for a sneak peek into the future of EVs.

Understanding the Trends in EV Sales

According to AutoVista, the global EV market has been on an upward trajectory, with combined battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sales growing by 35% in 2023. Despite challenges such as changing incentives, public skepticism, and provisional import tariffs, EVs accounted for 16.7% of the global market in 2023, up from 13.6% the previous year.

Forecasts for 2024 remained optimistic, with EV Volumes predicting a 19.2% global market share for EVs, demonstrating year-on-year growth of 16%. However, projections for 2025 suggest a tempered outlook, with global EV sales anticipated to reach 22.1% of the market. While this is a notable increase, it is slightly lower than expected, reflecting uncertainties around tariffs, economic conditions, and market-specific challenges.

What This Means for Aspiring Automotive Technicians

The anticipated growth in EV sales underscores the increasing demand for skilled hybrid and electric vehicle mechanics capable of servicing them. ATC Surrey’s hybrid technology program offers students the specialized training to excel in this space. Our program goes beyond the basics, covering high-voltage safety, energy storage systems, and regenerative braking.

Students also gain hands-on experience with transmission and drive train modules, preparing them to address the unique challenges of hybrid systems. With the ability to repair complex hybrid drive systems in aftermarket shops, graduates of our program are well-positioned to meet the growing needs of the automotive industry.

Preparing for the Future of EVs

While the outlook for EV sales in 2025 may be slightly less optimistic than earlier forecasts, the long-term trajectory remains promising. By 2030, global EV volumes are expected to nearly triple, reaching a market share of 44.9%. This growth will drive demand for skilled professionals who understand the intricacies of hybrid and electric vehicle systems.

At ATC Surrey, we are committed to helping our students seize opportunities in this evolving field. With a focus on hybrid technology training, we ensure that graduates are equipped with the knowledge and experience to succeed in the automotive careers of tomorrow. Despite the serious warnings surrounding high-voltage components, many intricate hybrid drive systems can be repaired in aftermarket shops with the right skills and knowledge.

Our comprehensive 16-hour course is conveniently designed to fit your schedule and is spread over two Saturdays. Applicants must be at least 19 years old or have a high school diploma to enroll. As part of the program, every student receives the Hybrid Technology and Service—Student Guide, a valuable resource provided to all ATC participants.

As the EV market grows, now is the time to prepare for a future powered by innovation and sustainability.
